Heartbreaking Update on UPS Accident: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The total count of fatalities due to the freight aircraft that burst into flames and went down has climbed to 13, per recent reports.

Official's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ vigil, I received word of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a social media post. “My prayers is with the relatives, friends and colleagues of all who were lost in this recent tragedy. We will get through this together.”

Casualties Named

An announcement from UPS listed the flight crew on board the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to every staff member who has been touched and everyone in our local community – helping you and making sure you get the care and aid you need is our main concern,” the company’s communication stated.

Investigation Findings

Federal officials disclosed that the freight aircraft’s wing caught fire and an engine fell off just after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the jet to fall and burst into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is investigating the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for repairs weeks ahead of the crash.

Aircraft data indicated the aircraft was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to last week.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was present in that city,” stated an official on Thursday, without providing a specific time frame. “We will look at each aspect of maintenance that was done, even the Texas time, straight to the time of the journey.”

Retrieval of Key Evidence

The audio device and flight data recorder were found, and the motor was found on the tarmac.

The units – called data containers – were built to withstand collision damage and intense fire from infernos, and they appeared to be intact when discovered among the crash debris. Officials plan on reviewing recordings from the devices.

Aircraft’s final data recordings displayed an elevation of that level and a velocity of 210 mph prior to the accident.

Maintenance Record

According to aviation authority files from that date, a fracture on a part in the tank area required maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it offers aircraft servicing for the carrier’s aircraft and operates a maintenance center in that city, refused to speak, but stated it would work closely when officials contacted it.

Services Continue

At the same time, UPS Worldport operations continued last night with its Next Day Air also known as night sort operation, official a representative said. Each of the three runways at the aviation hub were also reopened.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s biggest. The center employs in excess of twenty thousand individuals in the locality, processes 300 flights per day and sorts in excess of a huge volume of packages an hour.

Public Response

A memorial was organized on the late afternoon of recently by the area worker’s group, which represents workers at the airfield, the organization’s largest shipping facility.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents employees, started the memorial with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the approximate hour of the accident before.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so surprising,” the official spoke to the group of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to part to each of those who we have lost.”
